Puff’s RAP Song Session 6
Developed by K.C. Rautiainen, RN, BScN, PHN Sudbury and District Health Unit
(Puff sings)
My name is Puff and I’d like you to meet
All my new friends, they’re really neat
We spent time together just them and me
We learned about our asthma, just wait, you’ll see
‘Cuz now my friends have something to do
They’ll teach you all a thing or two
(Children sing)
We all take a breath, in and out
Breath gives us life, that’s what it’s about
Some of us have to be more aware
Of some of the things that are in our air
Animal fur from a dog or a cat
Can start an attack, just like that
Perfume and dust and smoke that is thick
Can trigger our asthma and make us sick
Our airways get thick, the muscles squeeze
That’s why sometimes, we start to wheeze
We cough, we sigh, we cannot play
How can we make it go away?
Well, now we know a thing or two
About our puffers, we’ll share with you
When muscles get tight, air can’t get through
We grab our reliever, that puffer’s blue
Preventers are orange or brown or red
They keep swelling down, that’s what we said
Remember the asthma action plan
Being in the green is groovy, man
It means we’re fine and feeling swell
Our lungs are working really well
The yellow zone means we’re not quite right
It means our airways are gettin’ tight
The red zone means we need to be
Getting to a doctor as quick as can be
We know that if we work together
We’ll make our asthma even better
We’ll work and play and have our fun
Controlling our asthma has now begun
We don’t have to feel so scared or sad
Cuz having asthma ain’t all that bad
