Asthma Clue

Target group: older

Aim: to increase awareness of asthma triggers and symptoms and asthma management in a variety of environments. This game will also promote teamwork and facilitate healthy decision making.

Supplies: modified Clue board game (see Activity), True/False asthma questions

Activity

This game was created by modifying a Clue board game. The board can remain the same or you be changed to reflect various environments and locations. The Clue cards are modified to include symptoms, triggers, and the locations. If possible, laminate the cards for more durability.

  • Players try to locate Puff, who has been kidnapped.
  • To rescue Puff, players need to identify the answers to three questions:
  1. What is the trigger that kidnapped Puff?
  2. What is the symptom?
  3. What is Puff's location?
  • The cards are separated into the three categories and one card from each category is removed, without looking at the card, and placed in the secret envelope.
  • The remaining cards are shuffled together and distributed to the players.
  • The participants play in partners or small groups, depending on the size of the whole group.
  • Each team is given a playing piece, which is placed on the appropriate board square to begin the game.
  • The players role the dice and move their playing piece accordingly.
  • When a team enters a room, it answers a True/False question about asthma. If correct, the team can try solving the mystery by stating a trigger, symptom and location. The team should not suggest a trigger, symptom or location on a card the team has, as this os obviously incorrect.
  • The team on its right would then attempt to prove it wrong by showing one of the cards suggested.
  • If they are unable to do so, the next team would try, etc.
  • If none of the teams can disprove the suggestion, then the team can make an accusation.
  • The cards would be removed from the secret envelope and the team would discover whether they were correct.
  • If they guess incorrectly, they are disqualified from the game.
  • For further explanations, review the playing instructions of the Clue Board Game.
