- Asthma Management Zones
Asthma Management Zones
Target group: older
Aim: To identify asthma zones by symptoms and know appropriate actions and/or medications to take.
Supplies:
- two sets of red, yellow and green cards or bean bags
- two sets of preventer and reliever medications or pictures/posters of medications (You may want to have one of each inhaler device and medication for each group, so that children can choose their medication.)
Activity
- The group is divided into 2 teams.
- Put the “zones” and inhalers at a station at one end of the room and the teams in a line at the other end.
- Read out a symptom, scenario, etc. Have one child from each team get the correspondingly coloured card or bean bag and the appropriate inhaler device for that symptom.
- Remember that even in the green zone, some children will be using preventer medications and should bring that device when they think they are in the green zone.
This idea came from the Ontario Public Health School Asthma Project.
