Coloured Dice
Target group: older
Supplies: Felt dice with red, green and yellow squares; red, green and yellow goodie bags filled with dollar store prizes in the same colour (e.g. a red pencil in the red bag, a green pencil in the green bag, etc.)
Activity
- The group is divided into 2 teams.
- The facilitator rolls a die and picks a student in one of the groups, who then answers questions about the asthma zone that correspond to the colour on the landed die. The questions are:
- “How does it feel to be in the ______zone?”
- “Are you having any symptoms or having any problems performing activities in this zone?”
- “What action do you take in this zone?”
- If they get all 3 questions right, the student gets the corresponding colour goodie bag.
- The student rolls the die and selects a student from the opposing team, who then answers the above questions.
Alternate idea: The students act out what they would do in each zone rather than answering the questions.
This idea came from the Ontario Public Health School Asthma Project.
