- Dinosaur Air Tubes
Dinosaur Air Tubes
Target group: any age, can also use for school presentation
Supplies
- 2 covered foam mattresses or thin, pliable pads
- two or three belts
- rope or straps
- cotton batten
- small balls
Activity
- Prior to the presentation:
- create a large air tube using a foam mattress or pliable thin-wall pad
- create a thicker-wall (if possible), smaller diameter tube that will fit inside the large air tube
- lightly wrap two or three belts, rope or straps around the air tube
- Present the large air tube as a healthy dinosaur airway. Have a student sit on either side of, but not on, the open ends of the tube. Tell the students that the small balls represent air and ask them how easy it is for the balls to go through the tube.
- Insert the smaller diameter tube inside the large air tube. Ask students what the small tube represents (swelling) and how easy it now is for balls to go through the tube.
- Have students tight up the straps. Ask students what the straps represent (tight muscles) and how easy it now is for balls to go through the tube.
- Place cotton batten in one side of the tube. Ask students what cotton batten represents (mucous) and how easy it now is for balls to go through the tube.
- Could do the reverse using their medication if time allows or at next session.
