Trigger Detective Club
Target group: quiet, older
Supplies: checklist
Activity
- Explain to the children that they are school detectives searching for clues. The clues are things in the school that might make their asthma worse.
- Put the children into groups of two or three.
- Provide each group with a clip board and the checklist (see below).
- Take the group on a tour of the school stopping at various areas.
- Allow a few minutes at each area for each group to brainstorm and write down or check off all the possible triggers that they can see.
- Return to your instructional area.
- Collect all the forms from the children.
- Inform the group that their list may be used to help develop or revise school guidelines. If appropriate, inform the children that you will send their lists to the principal with a letter informing him/her that the RAP detectives identified a list as possible triggers in the school that they may wish to address.
