- Trigger Collage
Trigger Collage
Target group: younger, quiet children
Supplies
- a collection of appropriate magazines with colourful pictures that children can cut out
- glue or tape and child's scissors
- poster paper to create the Trigger Collage or use the page provided in the Fun Book
Activity
Children can work independently or in groups.
Ask the children to:
- find pictures of asthma triggers in the magazines and to cut them out
- make their Trigger Collage by pasting the pictures on the poster paper or in their Fun Book
Once completed, ask each group or child to:
- pick two or three of their "big" triggers
- share how they avoid those triggers
Prompt discussion about avoidance strategies by posing scenarios such as "What if you were going to your friends house who had a cat?" "What if your aunt came to your house and wanted to smoke?" Explore exercise as a trigger and ask if you avoid or control exercise.
If the children created a group poster, ask the children and school administration for permission to post the Trigger Collage on a school bulletin board.
