Relay Races

Target group: all

Goal: To promote team work and concentration.

Size: 6 to 10 players

Supplies

  • Paper, Pens, Crayons, Pylons, Stopwatch, Sacks
  • Peak flow meters and mouth pieces
  • Lungs that can be assembled by children

Activity

    • Players are divided into teams.
    • Each team has to complete the four activities listed below, or others developed by the children and/or instructor.
    • The team that completes the four activities the fastest and best wins.
    • The winning team will be required to explain how each activity relates to asthma.

    Suggested activities

    • Each person will have five seconds to draw one part of the respiratory tract and pass it on to the next person. The team that has the best looking lungs, within 30 - 50 seconds, wins (depends on the team size).
    • First team that reaches 2000 three times with a peak flow meter wins (2000 can be reached by adding up several players’ peak flow, reset the peak flow meter after every player and just add the numbers).
    • The team that writes down the most triggers in 20 seconds wins.
    • First team to do five toe touches, sky reaches, then jump into a potato sack and hop to the pylon, circle it, get out of the sack and hop back on one foot, wins.

    Variations

    • Any other ideas that will help educate the players about asthma may be used.
    • Have the players explain what each activity has to do with asthma.
