Activities
Plan Ahead
You may wish to have this session in the evening and to schedule more time!
You will require supplies for this session. Be sure to bring a RAP Certificate for each child as well as small RAP prizes, such as comic books, activity books, etc.
Activities to Promote School Awareness
The following ideas can be suggested to the students to help raise awareness about asthma:
- Invite a friend to the final session.
- Make a poster or announcement to share with students. It can be placed on the bulletin board or inserted in the school newsletter.
- Present their skit or song to their class.
- Write an article about the program for the school newsletter.
Welcome and Introduction
Get the children, parents and teachers seated. As they enter, ask each child to hand in his/her Fun Book so you can add up their stickers.
Have the designated child welcome parents and teachers and announce the presentation.
Welcome to our last RAP session. The _________________ (insert group name) group and Puff the Asthmasaurus will sing our RAP song.
Help Puff lead the children in singing the RAP song for Session 6.
Sharing What Was Learned
The Optional Activities include a number of activities that can be used to share what was learned with parents and teachers. Depending on your group preference, available time and setting, select one or two of the following:
- Asthma Jeopardy Game
- Puppet Shows
- Skits
- RAP Song
- Asthma Mural
- A.S.T.H.M.A. flash cards
Presentation of Awards and Certificates
Present each child with a RAP Certificate. You may wish to use Puff's mouth to hand the Certificate to the child and to shake the child's hand.
Consider presenting small prizes to children that brought their books to all six sessions or for other positive behavior. Try to ensure that each child is rewarded for something.
