Explore Feelings

Help clarify how asthma makes the children feel.

cueIconHow do you feel about having asthma?

Encourage discussion. Do not assign negative feelings to individual children. Instead, assign the negative feelings to Puff. The following are suggestions for how to explore feelings. Choose one that works for you and your group:
  • Allow the children a few minutes to draw a picture of how they think Puff feels about asthma in their Fun Book. Discuss what the drawings mean while exploring the feelings of the group. use Puff to prompt discussion, for example Puff can never play soccer, has concerns about his health, is unhappy when unable to play with his friends, etc.
  • Hold up a picture of Puff standing behind a tree, crying and watching others play. Invite reactions and ask how they think Puff feels and whether they have ever felt that way.

cueIconDoes anyone find it scary to have asthma? Does anyone have any concerns about their asthma?

Encourage discussion about the childrens' concerns. Relate these concerns to those of Puff.
Let the children know there is a remedy for their concerns.

cueIconI know how you can get rid of your concerns about asthma, or at least make your concerns less worrysome. What you have to do is learn how to control your asthma and know how to take care of yourself.
