Inhaler technique activity
Inhaler technique activity
Introduce the topic.
Today, we are going to learn how to use our inhaler. Does anyone know why our inhaler is very important?
Inhalers help us get medications into our airways. The medications can help prevent or relieve asthma symptoms.
Encourage children to show their inhalers to the group.
There are lots of different inhalers. Each colour contains a different medication. Let's see how many different colours of inhalers we have here today.
Ask the children to show their inhaler to the group.
Inhaler Learning Activities
These learning activities help children use their inhaler and understand the importance of the medication that the inhaler delivers to their bodies.
Choose learning activities that best match the age of the children and the group dynamics. Ensure that you:
- clearly introduce and explain each learning activity
- demonstrate how it is played (preferably with help from Puff)
- explain the purpose or objective of the game
At the end of each activity, ask them what the point of the game was or what they learned. Refer to the Optional Games section for more details.
Suggested learning activities include:- The Puffer Unscramble Game
- People Puffer Puzzle
- Medication Relay
It is very important to observe and critique the specific inhaler device for each child at least once. This should be repeated in a later session. You may ask individuals to stay a few minutes after the session to observe over the six sessions if time is tight for individual demonstrations.
Conclusion – Have children describe what they have learned.
Have we found another ashtma treasure? If so, what is it?
Invite responses from the children.
Using medication properly is very important. Write "using medication properly" in your treasure chest in your Fun Book.
